Tutorials

The role of the tutorials is to provide a platform for a more intensive scientific exchange amongst researchers interested in a particular topic and as a meeting point for the community. Tutorials complement the depth-oriented technical sessions by providing participants with broad overviews of emerging fields. A tutorial can be scheduled for 1.5 or 3 hours.

How to Extract Knowledge from Communications : Combining Pragma-linguistics and Knowledge Engineering Techniques

Brief Bio
Nada Matta is Professor at the University of Technology of Troyes. Studies techniques in knowledge engineering and management and specially to handle cooperative activities. She assumed several reponsibilities (director of Human, Environment and Technology of Information and Communication Department, Director of Scientific group of Safety and Security, Director of Information Systems Department). She organized several workshops and did Tutorials in Knowledge management jointly to KMIS, IJCAI, ECAI, CTS, CSCW conferences. Nada Matta did her PhD in knowledge engineering and Artificial Intelligence at University of Paul Sabatier in collaboration with ARTEMIS. Worked for four years at INRIA in projects with Dassault-Aviation and Airbus Industry.

Hassan Atifi, is an associate professor in Information and communication Science at the university of technology of Troyes in ICDTech-CICO “technology of Cooperation Interaction and Knowledge” team. He did his Phd on linguistics and communication analysis at University of Lumiere 2 Lyon. His main research is computer mediated communication and new digital media for instance by analyzing e-mails, forums, communities of interest, social media. He studies also how to extract knowledge from interactions. He is involved in several projects as: H2020 project on Next Generation of European Makers, CPER project on crisis management decision making environment, Region project Traceability of knowledge from interactions.

Brief Bio
Nelson Tenorio, obtained his PhD in Computer Science in the Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul, on that occasion, he worked in the Hewlett-Packard Consulting Porto Alegre - Brazil where he investigated effort estimation within three big software development projects. In that opportunity, he has improved my managing and leading skills regarding software development research projects. In 2016 visiting researcher at Information of Technology University of Copenhagen (IT University) and visiting researcher at Copenhagen University (KU). In 2018 he was visiting researcher at UTT (University of Technology of Troyes). He has published different papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences regarding Knowledge management in the software industry and computer supported cooperative working. Finally, he is editor of a book regarding Knowledge Management and reviewer of different conferences and journals.
Abstract

Knowledge is generally produced through interactions: 1- actor facing a problem, or 2- communication between actors. In this tutorial, we present new techniques based on pragma-linguistic that help to identify actors intentions. We show also how to combine these techniques with knowledge engineering in order to restitute the meaning of interactions.

Detailed Outline

Knowledge is generally produced through interactions: 1- actor facing a problem, or 2- communication between actors. Currently, several knowledge management techniques are addressing those two aspects. For instance, using the text mining, building ontology, a managing community of practices, etc.
In this tutorial, we present new techniques based on pragma-linguistic that help to identify actors intentions. We show also how to combine these techniques with knowledge engineering in order to restitute the meaning of interactions. Examples of analyzinge-mails and discussion forums will be presented. Finally, the Tutorial’ s attendee will apply some of these analysis techniques in given exercises.
